According to the police, the 42-year-old robbery
suspect, Olumide Asiyanbi, was arrested just as he was about signing the
dotted lines with his bride by policemen attached to the state task
force team that has been on his trail for months.
The
police alleged that Asiyanbi was a member of a deadly six-man-robbery
gang who had been terrorising the people of the Ibadan and other
neighbouring states.
Confessing his involvement in
over 10 different robbery attacks before he was arrested, Asiyanbi
believed it was nemesis that caught up with him on the day he wanted to
walk down the aisle.
"I was arrested on my wedding day.
I met the gang leader, James Agba, last year. He told me he knew how we
could be getting regular money. He then initiated me into the gang. I
have taken part in at least 10 operations since I joined them.
We
used guns but I don’t know where James was buying them. Sulaimon and
Alhaji, who are also in the gang, knew how the guns were bought for our
operations. I have fired shots at our targets but nobody was killed.
