NIGERIAN YOUNG PROFESSIONALS HAIL NDDC, SEEKS TO REPOSITION THE YOUTHS

The Nigerian Young Professionals Forum (NYPF) has applauded the efforts of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for repositioning the youths and building their capacity as part of its contribution to the transformation agenda of the Federal Government. The Chairman of the Nigerian Professionals Youth Forum ( NYPF), Mr. Moses Siasia, made the commendation on Tuesday at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt while presenting an award of excellence to the Board and Management of the NDDC.

He said that NYPF, which is a non-governmental organization, highly appreciated the support the NDDC had been giving to it to promote the cause of changing the lives of young people and re-shaping the morals of youths in the Niger Delta, as well as helping them to be engaged in productive ventures.

“We believe that some of our youths have lost their bearing in terms of ethics and values. So, we need to re-orientate them to let them know that they have a role to play in nation building. The future belongs to the youths, therefore, we must work constructively to safeguard it for them,” Siasia said.

The NYPF chairman said that the group was reaching out to over 13 million youths globally through the social media network, stating that the young professionals had effective presence in 15 countries, including the United Kingdom and France. He said that the US chapter of the NYPF would be inaugurated on September 27.

Mr. Siasia said that the NYPF was aiming to ensure that young professionals were fully involved in the process of development both in the political and economic spheres. According to him, the body was contributing to Nigeria’s development through human capacity building. “Through our educational intervention scheme, we give out school materials to less privileged children in order to boost their moral and enable them perform well in their academic pursuit,” he said.

Responding, the NDDC Managing Director, Sir (Barr.)Bassey Dan-Abia, said that those who understood the basic mandate of the commission would always appreciate its modest contributions to the development of the oil-rich region. He thanked the youth group for recognizing the efforts of the NDDC. “The award will spur us to do more. It will encourage us to continue to do the best we can for the Niger Delta and Nigeria,” he said.

The NDDC boss regretted the collapse of morals in the society, especially among the youths, and called for a total turn around. He said that the effects of the moral turpitude were staring everyone in the face, noting that it was encouraging that the young professionals were focusing attention to changing the situation.

The Special Assistant on youth matters to the NDDC MD, Barr. George Turnah, said the collaboration between the commission and the NYPF was beneficial to youths in the country generally. He commended the group for giving credit to the NDDC for supporting their activities and building the capacity of young people.
