Mercy Johnson Is Now Free from Ban by Producers & Marketers

The most expensive regular actress in Nigeria, Mercy Johnson, is now free to do what she knows best again as movie producers and marketers have finally lifted the ban placed on the star actress. It would be recalled that Mercy Johnson was banned a few months ago from acting for being ‘too expensive’.



In a press release signed by the spokesman for Film, Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN), Norbert Ajaegbu, the group said:


“The disagreement between producers/marketers and Mercy Johnson finally ends following the FVPMAN’s national working committee meeting, which held on Sunday, March 9, 2014. Mercy having diligently concluded all the jobs in dispute, leaving us with no choice than to accept her apology.”



Speaking further about the star actress, Norbert in the statement said: “She is one wonderful personality we would not want to join issues with. She knows when to say sorry. She has concluded all that we asked her to do. We have directed our members to resume all the previous existing relationship with her.”

A teenage girl named Funmilola has been arrested by the Nigeria police after she attacked another teenage girl with a sharp object, slashing her neck, after accusing her of dating her boyfriend.

 15year old Haliya Odunaya (pictured above), who is a senior secondary student is currently receiving treatment at Stars Clinic on Apapa Road in Ebute Matta after the brutal attack left her fighting for her life.

Warder Arrested By The EFCC For Helping Inmate Open Bank Account

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a 29-year-old warder with the old Abeokuta Prisons, Ogun State, Joseph Emmanuel for opening a bank account for an inmate and also helping the inmate make several withdrawals.

The warder is also being held for allegedly using the name and documents of  an illiterate taxi driver in his neighborhood, Monsuru Adeogun to open the First Bank account for the inmate.

Spokesperson of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, had in a statement said that the suspect allegedly assisted the inmate whom he called ‘Ora’ to open the account, after refusing to yield his own account to the inmate to use.

Shocking: N24bn Missing From Police Pension Fund

There are indications that the sum of N24 billion has disappeared from the service wide vote in 2010 for the Police Pension Fund, with a stunning revelation on Tuesday.



The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts was inundated with this fact by the Director General of Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD), Mrs. Nellie Mayshak said there was no documentary evidence on the whereabouts of the money.

The committee was therefore compelled to summon the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, for the second time in two weeks, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Jonah Otunla, Auditor General of the Federation, Mr. Samuel Ukura and the Director General Budget Office, Dr. Bright Okogwu to appear before it to answer questions on the so-called missing fund.

Specifically, Okogwu was required by the committee to come forward with a memo showing the request for the missing N24 billion.

Also requested to submit documents showing the amount deposited in its vaults and detail of the transaction done with it, is First Bank.

US Government Confisticates Another $458m Abacha Loot

Less than a week after President Goodluck Jonathan honoured late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, with an award for “his contributions to the nation,” the United States has ordered a freeze on a whooping $ 458m in assets stolen by the former dictator and his accomplices.

                   

This is the largest civil forfeiture action to recover the proceeds of foreign official corruption ever brought by the department,” said Mythili Raman, acting assistant attorney general.

“General Abacha was one of the most notorious kleptocrats in memory, who embezzled billions from the people of Nigeria, while millions lived in poverty.”

AFP quoted the Justice Department as saying on Wednesday that the corruption proceeds – stashed away in bank accounts in Britain, France and Jersey – were frozen at Washington’s request with the help of allies.

Abacha died in office in 1998, but his surviving relatives still include some of the richest and most influential figures in Nigeria.

According to a civil forfeiture complaint unsealed in the US District Court in Washington, the department wants to recover more than $ 550m in connection with the action.

Army Chief Assures NDDC of Adequate Security.

The new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Shehu Yusuf has promised to strengthen and sustain the security shield which the army provides for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and the entire region.

                       

The GOC gave the assurance yesterday when he paid a courtesy call on the NDDC Managing Director, Sir (Barr.) Bassey Dan-Abia, at the commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The new GOC, who was accompanied by the Commander 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Osasugie Uzamere and other top officers, was among the 5 GOCs appointed recently after the confirmation of the appointment of the new Service Chiefs for the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Major General Yusuf said that he had just taken over the army division that covers the South-South and South-East states on Tuesday and thought it was necessary to touch base with key agencies of government in his area of command. “The NDDC is an important development agency that should be given adequate protection to perform its functions,” he said.

Death Toll From Yobe Girls College Massacre Rises To 43....

The death toll from a school massacre in Yobe by suspected Boko Haram Islamists on Tuesday has risen to 43, a hospital source in the troubled northeastern Yobe state said.



“Ambulances have been bringing in bodies from Federal Government College in (the town of Buni Yadi,” a senior medical source at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital in Yobe’s capital Damaturu told AFP.

“So far 43 bodies have been brought and are lying at the morgue,” he said, requesting anonymity as he was not authorised to discuss death tolls.

Yobe’s police chief Sanusi Rufai told AFP that 29 people were killed but it was not immediately clear if all of the dead were students.

Rufai said he was en route to Buni Yadi with Yobe’s covernor Ibrahim Geidam to assess the extent of the damage.

Speaking on the mess that is oozing out of President Goodluck Jonathan’s government, Sanusi Lamido told the AFP that Jonathan lacks the will to appoint truthful men and women, as he is surrounded by crooks. In the words of Sanusi: “His [Jonathan] greatest failing obviously is that he is surrounded by people who are extremely incompetent, who are extremely fraudulent and whom he trusts.”

 

Regarding the allegations against him, the suspended CBN chief said when he heard of a report condemning his performance, he wrote to Jonathan asking if an explanation is needed, but he received no reply.

He said, unfortunately, the first time he was formally notified of the allegations against him was the day he was suspended, that is Thursday last week. But Reuben Abati had lied to the media that Sanusi was queried for the alleged offences and he replied the Presidency.

Obasanjo In Closed-Door Meeting With Tambuwal

A source who confirmed the meeting between Obasanjo and Tambuwal he stormed Ota to confer with Baba Obasanjo on critical issues. The source said President Jonathan has failed so many people who worked to put him in power and that the elders can’t allow him to ruin Nigeria.

Addressing a teeming crowd at the building site, Mrs. Jonathan said: “Today marks a milestone in the development of higher education in Nigeria.

PENGASSAN - Nigeria Can Build A New Refinery In 16 Days

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has lamented the federal government’s attitude to the building of new refineries, describing as flimsy any excuses given on funding.



The umbrella body for oil workers in  the country stated that the federal government could have built new refineries if it wanted to as Nigeria’s crude output for 16 days can fund the building of a new refinery.

“To build a refinery today is about US$4 billion (N640 billion). We produce not less than 2.4 million barrel of crude oil on a daily basis and we sell at $108, which is the price all over the world. Going by that calculation, we are making about N41.2 billion daily,” Mr. Folorunsho Ogini, Chairman, PENGASSAN, Lagos Zone told Vanguard in an interview.

Ogini also decried the in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, a bill he noted would address some of the challenges Nigeria’s oil and gas sector faces.

“The question is; why is the PIB not signed into law? Who is afraid of the PIB? These people know quite well that if PIB is signed into law, all these problems confronting the nation’s oil and gas sector have been addressed by the bill.
