The House of Representatives Committee on the Niger Delta Development
Commission has commended the Commission and Shell Petroleum Development
Company for their pioneering efforts in the construction of the Ogbia-
Nembe road.
Members of the Committee made the commendation while inspecting the
project as part of their oversight function. The Committee Chairman, Hon
Nicholas Mutiu said, “We are indeed impressed by the collaboration
between the NDDC and Shell on this unique project, touching the lives of
over 15 communities”.
According to him, constructing a road to Nembe and its
adjourning communities in a very difficult terrain is an Herculean task
and NDDC deserve to be encouraged. He therefore charged the two
organisations not to relent in accomplishing the task, promising the
support of the committee in realising the dream. “We in the House of
Representatives are ever ready to support this laudable initiative by
appropriating funds towards the completion of the road”.
Briefing the committee members on the project, the Acting
Managing Director, NDDC, Dr. (Mrs.) Christy Atako disclosed that the
road project with several bridges and culverts is making steady
progress.
Dr. Atako remarked that the project was in line with
the transformation agenda of the Goodluck’s administration, in which
infrastructure development is a key element.
“We promise not to let the President down, we assure
you, the House Committee members and the Communities that we shall not
fail in our duties of releasing funds for the completion of the road
within the stipulated tune”.
The Committee members also commissioned the Elele
Alimini-Akpabu-Itu Road, linking three Local Government Areas of Emohua,
Ahoada East and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Areas of Rivers
State.
