Narrating the incident, the toddler’s mother Margaret said the incident happened when her two-year old daughter went into Bashiru’s apartment to play, adding that she did not stop her from going into Bashiru’s room because she considered him a neighbour who could not harm her daughter. “She calls him uncle,” she said.
The incident happened in Okom Ita, Akamkpa Local Government Area, Cross River State.
When she reported the incident to the police, Basiru was arrested by officers from the Akamkpa police station.
Confirming the arrest, Cross River State Police Command spokesman, Mr Hogan Bassey said the matter was under investigation.
