Meet The 12 Year Old Nigerian Who Created An App To Help Lost Children

Tomisin Jasmin Ogunnubi, a 12 year old student of Vivian Fowler Memorial College Oregun, Lagos; has just developed a fully functional android application in Nigeria.



It has not been the most positive of times in Nigeria considering the current economic climate but every now and then a story will pop up and lift the spirits of the country. Tomisin Ogunnubi from Lagos has provided such a story for her nation in Answers Africa.

The 12-year-old girl from Lagos has developed an app to solve a problem which she had noticed in her community. Tomisin finished up the development of her Android mobile tracking app, My Location, just a few weeks ago.

The motivation behind the app was to help lost children find their way back home.



How it was developed:

Tomision developed her app under the guidence of an Information and Communications Technology partnership, between her school, Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, and New Horizons Computer Learning Center. Here, Tomision was able to learn the necessary skills and knowledge needed to develop her app.

How it works:

The “current location”setting on the app enables the child to see exactly where they are, as well as highlighting the neighboring streets around them. The other main functionality of the app will allow the child to save a location such as their house or school and it will direct them to their desired location.

The My Locator App also features a button, which when pressed will alert the Lagos State Emergency Services. The app will call the services as well as show the child’s location so that they can be helped.

The app is available for free download in Lagos, Nigeria.

“I Won’t Break His Marriage, All I Want Is Sex – Roman Catholic Sister

A 38-year-old Roman Catholic sister confessed to be in an adulterous affair with a married man stating that all she wants from him is sex.

Emmaculate Samukange, who also works as a nurse at Chivhu General Hospital, said she has no intentions of breaking Phillip Dzingai’s marriage but only wanted s.ex from him.

“I am aware that Phillip is married and it is true that I am having an affair with him.

“I am a Roman Catholic sister so what I do does not allow me to be his second wife.

“I am in a relationship with him because I failed to resist s.exual temptation; I don’t wish to break his marriage, all I want from him is s.ex,” said Emmaculate.

She added that Phillip is the only man she has ever loved in her life.

“I started dating him in 2013 and since then I have tried to let him go but I have failed to do so.

“We met at Chivhu General Hospital where I also work as a nurse and from that moment we clicked.

“I have never met his wife but she now knows what is going on between Phillip and I because we have been dating for a long time now,” she said.

When asked for comment Phillip denied having an affair with Emmaculate.

“There is nothing like that going on,” he said before hanging up the phone.  

Meanwhile an H-Metro source, who is a close relative to Phillip, said they had tried to warn Phillip from cheating on his wife but it was to no avail.

“As a family we have had numerous meetings with Phillip but we have not been able to convince him to be faithful to his wife.

“It seems as if they are inseparable; each time you mention anything to do with Emmaculate he changes his temper and starts to be violent,” said the source.

Kachikwu who is the minister of state for petroleum resources is set to be made substantive minister as according to New Telegraph, President Buhari told Kachikwu to “go ahead with some critical decisions, including, but not limited to overseeing the forthcoming oil bloc allocations if necessary.” 

A source at the presidency said Kachikwu is likely going to be announced as substantive minister by President Buhari when he returns from London and this would be determined by his performance during his absence.

Worst Case of Child Abuse? Boy Dies After Being Brutalized by His Father and Stepmother in Bayelsa

A very little boy has died in one of the most bizarre ways after he allegedly was brutalized by his father and stepmother in Bayelsa State.  

 

 

 

According to a Facebook user, Wariebi Sapere-obi, who shared the heartbreaking photos on social media, a young boy has passed away as a result of some high degree of injuries inflicted on him by his father and step-mother in Bayelsa state

 

"Worse case of Child Abuse I have ever seen. This child was brought into CHEW (children emergency) FMC yenagoa dead. what a father and his wife (victims step mum) could do to a child," the poster captioned the terrible photos.

 

When quizzed further for more details of the incident, he said; "For all those in need of details concerning my initial post, you will get answers before tomorrow. I am at work now and I was on call last night so please be patient. Thanks a lot for your concerns."

Lecturer Shot Dead Hours After Dedicating His New Car

Professor Gabriel Okayi, a lecturer at Federal University of Agriculture (FUAM), Makurdi, Benue State was killed by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Monday, January 9th, barely 24 hours after he dedicated his new car.

The terrible incident happened at the deceased’s residence located in Asase community within North Bank area of Makurdi at about 3:00am. 

Okayi, a Professor of Aquatic Pollution in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, dedicated a new car he bought at the Foundation Faith Church in North Bank, Makurdi, on Sunday, January 8th.

State commissioner of Police Bashir Makama, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased woke up from sleep and observed that his dogs were not let loose as usually done at night, so he stepped out of the house to release the dogs, but some gunmen lurking inside his compound shot him in the back as he turned to enter his house, killing him instantly.

This is really sad. May his soul rest in peace.

Bloodbath As 30 Aiye Cult Members Attack Mowe In Ogun State, Injure 5, Destroy 20 Vehicles

At least 5 people are clinging to life at various hospitals in Ogun state hours after about 30 masked men suspected to be members of the Aiye Confraternity invaded Agionibode street, Mowe Motor Park and 09 Junction.

 

The attack which started around 10pm on Monday lasted for about an hour with no policemen or security operatives to save the innocent people and motorists targetted by the cultists.

In the process, they injured 5 people and vandalized 20 vehicles.

The injured victims are currently in coma .

A woman who came to a supermarket to steal has been disgraced after she was caught stealing.  

A lady has been disgraced after she was caught stealing at a shop. The woman was forced to bring out all that she stole from her body. 

The woman was caught after a metal detector at the door sounded the alarm, she had to shed her loot – pound by pound!

 

the video of the incident has become a hot topic on social media. The thief was forced to remove goods hidden under her clothes one by one – from panties to baby clothes! Some are removed from her panties and bra while shoppers watch in shock.

“It looks like she stole the goods to sell them. This woman is brave,” said one of the shoppers.

Shop employees said they suspected the woman packed the goods into a basket and went into the fitting room to stash them under her clothes.

“She wasn’t so big after removing her goods and was back to her normal size,” they said.

She was handed over to the police for prosecution.

Man Lands in Big Trouble After Burning His Niece with Hot Iron in Lagos

A Lagos-based factory worker, is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault after he allegedly used hot pressing iron on the back and hand of his 9-year-old niece.

 

A 22-year-old man, John Onuoha, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly placing hot pressing iron on the back and hand of his 9-year-old niece.

Onuoha, a factory worker, who resides at 16, Remoye St., Akowonjo Egbeda, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offences were committed on Dec. 25 at the accused residence.

Inuoha said that John accused his 9-year-old niece of stealing his money.

The prosecutor said that the pressing iron burnt the back and hand of the girl and she was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He said the offences contravened Sections 170 and 177 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till March 6 for mention.

Man Kills Elder Brother For Not Giving Him Pocket Money In Federal Capital Territory

Twenty-two-year-old Dominic Ogbaji, an indigene of Cross River State, is now gnashing his teeth in bitter regret at the headquarters of the Homicide Department of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Abuja, where he is being held in custody.

 

Dominic, an indigene of Cross River State, is alleged to have killed his elder brother, 32-year-old John Ogbaji, while he was asleep, for not giving him pocket money. The gruesome incident happened on November 2, 2016, at Ajegunle in Mpape village, FCT Abuja.

Dominic came from the village to live with his late elder brother in Abuja, while searching a better source of income. Prior to relocating to Abuja, Dominic had been a barber but was not earning much and earnestly wanted a change. So John invited him to Abuja. Not long after he came to Abuja, he began to pester the brother to get him a job. The situation came to a head on the night of November 2, after the two siblings had eaten their dinner.

Recalling the chain of events that led to the death of the deceased, Dominic told Sunday Sun reporter:

“I came from my village to stay with my sister but she referred me to my elder brother. When I got to his place, I told him I needed a job, but he couldn’t get me a job in Abuja. Rather, I was just staying with him. He was giving me food but not pocket money. Life was so difficult for me, I left my village thinking I would get a job in Abuja. Then, on the night of November 2, he gave me N60 to buy bread for us to eat and water. Later I told him I wanted to go back to the village and would need about N4000.

We ate the bread and later watched television together.
